The 20 × 20 × 20 is a cube mold — equal dimensions on all sides, 8 inches deep, 8 inches wide, 8 inches long. It’s designed for solid resin cubes, display blocks, paperweights, and sculptural castings where a true cubic form is the goal.
Casting Solid Resin Cubes — Layering and Bubble Control
Cube castings are one of the most technically interesting resin formats — and one of the most challenging. A solid cube requires multiple pours to avoid excessive heat buildup. Each layer must cure to the right degree of hardness before the next is added: too soft and the layers blend uncontrollably; too hard and they don’t bond properly.
Bubble control is also more demanding in cube casting than in flat work. Bubbles that would escape easily from a shallow pour can become trapped in a deep casting, particularly in the middle layers. Warming the resin slightly before mixing, pouring slowly, and using a heat gun carefully between layers all help — but the mold itself needs to hold steady throughout. Any movement or flex creates stress lines between layers.
The 20 × 20 × 20 holds rigidly through the full casting process. The equal internal dimensions produce a true cube — not one that’s slightly off-square because the sides shifted during curing. For display pieces and sculptural work where geometry matters, that precision makes a difference.
